Matthew began his monastic training at ZMM in 1996. The Anahat Meditation System draws significant influence from the discipline, meditation postures, and foundational principles of Zen Meditation (Zazen). Additionally, the Institute of Interpersonal Hypnotherapy’s Code of Ethics and its commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice are deeply inspired by the monasteries’ emphasis on kindness and compassion for all beings.

Matthew lived at and attended services at The Temple of the Universe for approximately five years, intermittently. Michael A. Singer’s teachings (https://tou.org/talks/) have profoundly influenced the training at the Institute of Interpersonal Hypnotherapy (IIH), particularly in areas such as clearing emotional blockages, opening the heart, and cultivating witness consciousness.

In 1996, Matthew lived at Kripalu for approximately one year. The Institute’s teachings on breathwork, yogic philosophy, meditation, clearing emotional blocks, and embracing a “spiritual lifestyle” are deeply inspired by the transformative works of Swami Kripalu and Yogi Amrit Desai. The foundations of The Anahat Meditation System emerged during this time, as Matthew engaged in profound 12-hour daily meditation sessions in the woods at Kripalu.

Every aspect of Anahat Education Group’s teachings is influenced by A Course in Miracles. We highly recommend that anyone on the path engage in the ACIM workbook lessons to supplement any spiritual path.
The works of Samaneri Jayasara come highly recommended for anyone seeking profound spiritual inspiration. Her beautiful renditions of timeless spiritual texts can be explored at her YouTube channel. Many of Matthew’s meditations are deeply influenced by The Cloud of Unknowing, which has been exquisitely set to music in her work.
