Dr. Kelsey Evans-Amalu -Informed Contemplative Interventions; Integrating Somatic Work into Other Healing Modalities
One paragraph description: In embracing the path toward greater healing and enlightenment, we must be aware of what practices we choose and with whom. According to research, 70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced some type of traumatic event at least once in their lives. That’s 223.4 million people. What this means for the contemplative community, is that in any environment where contemplative interventions (meditation hypnosis, yoga nidra, etc.) are being practiced (inclusive of yogic spaces, private offices, clinical spaces, schools etc.), there’s a high likelihood that someone will be struggling with traumatic stress. And while not everyone who has experienced trauma will have an adverse response to contemplative based practices, we need to be prepared and aware of this possibility and create accessibility and agency for all who practice. This conversation is rooted in the work of Dr. David Treleaven and Resmaa Menakem, and will outline ways to facilitate brave spaces and accessibility for everyone to practice somatic based interventions through more agentic measures. Dr. Kelsey Evans-Amalu will also provide tangible takeaways for teachers of contemplative traditions (yoga, meditation, hypnosis, etc.) to apply to their own classrooms, private practices, and studios. Included in this workshop will be a Trauma Informed Somatic Practices and discussion to integrate pre and post hypnosis.
